Profit calculator
Enter revenue and total costs to see profit, margin and markup in one place. It makes the difference between margin and markup concrete.
Enter revenue and costs.
How it works
- Profit = revenue − costs
- Margin = profit ÷ revenue
- Markup = profit ÷ costs
Worked example. Revenue 1,000 and costs 800 give a profit of 200, a margin of 20% and a markup of 25%.
Common questions
Why are margin and markup different?
They divide the same profit by different numbers: margin by revenue, markup by cost. Markup is always the larger percentage.
Is this net profit?
It is whatever you enter: if you include all costs, it is net profit; if only direct costs, it is gross profit.
What if costs are zero?
Markup cannot be calculated when costs are zero, so the tool shows nothing instead of a made-up number.
