Service pricing calculator

Price a service from labour, materials and an overhead share, then add the margin you need. It gives a price you can defend and a profit you can count on.

Fill in every field to price the service.

How it works

  • Direct cost = hours × hourly cost + materials
  • Total cost = direct cost × (1 + overhead %)
  • Price = total cost ÷ (1 − target margin)

Worked example. 6 hours at 25 plus 80 of materials is 230. With 15% overhead the cost is 264.50. A 30% margin gives a price of 377.86 and a profit of 113.36.

Common questions

How do I find my overhead percentage?

Divide a year of overheads by a year of direct costs. If you do not know yet, use an honest estimate and refine it.

Is margin the same as markup here?

No. The calculator uses margin, a share of the selling price, which protects you better than a markup on cost.

Does the price include tax?

No. Add tax at the rate that applies to you when you quote.
